Are you “Living the Life of Reilly”?

“Living the Life of Reilly”

by Laura Dalessio Baccini on Thursday, October 20, 2011 at 3:31am

Have you heard the phrase “Living the Life of Reilly’? Someone said to me today… that I live the Life of Reilly!  In response to the fact that over the last few weeks my birthday celebration continues with many lunches & dinners almost daily with wonderful friends… and recently,  I have a few Business Luncheons a week.

 My question is what does ’Living The Life of Reilly’ really mean?

 Everyone it seems, knows that ‘phrase – Life of Reilly’ but not what it really means and where it originated.

 So I needed to find out  . . .

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I found two different origins for that expression:
Meaning: An easy and pleasant life.
 Origin:  The phrase originated with the Irish/American soldiers in the US Army during WWI. The first known citation is in a letter from a Private Walter J. Kennedy, stationed at Camp Dix, New Jersey, which was published in The Syracuse Herald on 29th June 1918. The piece was headed “Great Life, Writes Soldier at Camp”:
“This is surely one great life.” writes Kennedy. “We call it the Life of Riley. We are having fine eats, are in a great detachment and the experience one gets is fine.”
Later that year, on 22nd October, The Bridgeport Telegram published a letter from Private Samuel S. Polley, 102 Regiment, stationed in France.
“They [German officers] must have led the life of Reilly as we caught them all asleep in beds…”
Who Riley (or Reilly, or Reiley) was isn’t clear. If he had been a known individual then it surely would have been recorded. The lack of any such records points to the name being chosen as that of a generic Irishman, much as Paddy is used now.
The phrase may have been brought to America by Irish immigrants, although there’s no known use of it in Ireland prior to 1918, or, more likely, it originated in the Irish community in the USA. It reached the wider public via the 1919 song by Howard Pease – My name is Kelly: Faith and my name is Kelly, Michael Kelly, but I’m living the life of Reiley just the    same. http://www.phrases.org.uk/
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The second one that I found said:

Origin

The name Riley is of Irish and Gaelic origin.  It means Valiant and Courageous.

 The meaning behind the name Riley begins when the name originally appeared in Gaelic as O’Raghailligh, which means descendant of Raghallach.

Living the Life of Riley

Living the Life of Riley” suggest an ideal life of prosperity and contentment, possibly living on someone else’s money, time or work.  Rather than a negative freeloading or gold digging aspect, it instead implies that someone is kept or advantaged.  This expression was popular in the 1880s a time when James Whitcomb Riley’s Poems depicted the comforts of a prosperous home life, but it could have an Irish origin: After the Riley clan consolidated its hold on country caravan, they minted their own money accepted as legal tender even in England.  These coins called O’Rileys and Reillys became synonymous with a monied person and a gentleman freely spending was “living on his Reillys”.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Life of Riley even became a Radio Show and then a TV Series
 “Living the life of Riley” suggests an ideal life of prosperity and contentment, possibly living on someone else’s…
 The Life of Riley, with William Bendix in the title role, was a popular radio situation comedy series of the 1940s that was adapted into a 1949 feature film and continued as a long-running television series during the 1950s, originally with Jackie Gleason playing Bendix’s role.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

“Living the Life of Reilly” has long been synonymous

with living life to the fullest or at the very least living life well!

So Yes…lately, I’ve been  “Living the Life of Reilly” ! Being ’50′ is going to be a good year!!!!!! ~Laura

A Winners Attitude “Being a Champion”

August 17, 2011

reprint of blog post written by  Two-A-Days on HubPages  GingerSnow.com

Before last year I would not have been able to write this. Or if so, it wouldn’t have been honest. I had never won a Championship in any sport my previous 32 years in athletics. I see things different now. I can finally look back and understand what was happening within our team that led us to win.

So YOU want to be Champion? For that you’ll need a few things. Belief, attitude, discipline, dedication, determination and passion, just for starters. Are you prepared to fight harder, faster and longer than your opponents? Keep yourself mentally and physically tough? Put in 110% every single day? Take your mind and body beyond any threshold you ever thought possible? Sacrifice life and limb for your teammates?

The most winning college Coach of all time, John Wooden had a Pyramid of Success in which some of the principles he included were: Poise, Loyalty, Intentness, Confidence and Skill.

However, not all traits of a Champion are roses and unicorns. To take your game to the next level you’ll need a few other things. Arrogance; You have you believe no one else can do it but you. Fear; fear of loss, fear of failure, fear of getting out of your comfort zone. Selfishness; last play of the game, no time on the clock, YOU have to be the one who wants the ball!

How bad do you want to win? Would you like to? Maybe one day, or that would be nice, kind of thing? Then just forget it right now. You have to feel it deep in your gut. That fuel inside you that wants to explode. The will to win, at any cost. That killer instinct to just fuck someone up when you have him up on the ropes. Michael Jordan was quoted as saying “I’m not out there sweating for three hours every day just to find out what it feels like to sweat.” Jordan was a winner. A six-time NBA Champion and one of the most competitive players of all time.

That being said, don’t forget to have fun. When we were young and first starting out we did it for the love of the game, and it was so much fun. No matter what level of achievement you attain, how hard you work or how many hours you put in, don’t forget to smile and truly enjoy what you’re doing.

Before every game Coach gave us the opportunity to have a quiet moment for last minute thoughts and dedications. In those final moments was the time for internal affirmations and visualizations. It’s no different in life, you must see it, FEEL IT, and believe it FIRST, and only then will it manifest. When breaking a huddle every team will say a statement to end on. Ours was simple, and made us who we are. “On 3. 1, 2, 3, CHAMPIONS!”

Feelings can actually change the physiology of your brain. According to The Talent Code, in the case of an athlete, certain thoughts can make your body relax, your mind more creative and actually decrease reaction time. Thoughts create feelings. Feelings preclude actions. The basis of all action is emotion.

Stay with me here….

2011 WFA Champion

Paraphrasing The Habit Code web site, within Think and Grow Rich, Napoleon Hill talks about Definiteness of Purpose. The big secret is that you must get emotionally attached to it.

This is where I think most people fall down.

You MUST get emotional about your goal.

Now, I’m not talking about getting a bit excited. I’m not talking about urging, or wishing, shouting, screaming or even jumping up and down emotional. I mean you have to get emotional “as if someone had tied a concrete ball around your neck and thrown you into the Boston Harbor” emotional.

On a scale of 1 – 10 (10 being drowning) The closer you are to a 10 the better. It depends on your DESIRE, how much you want something. A 1 is when you’re just wishing for something, because it might be nice to have. A 10 is when your life depends on it.

The reason you need to get emotional is this – ONLY Emotionalized thoughts have any ACTION influence upon the subconscious mind. The more Emotion you can mix with a thought, the more your subconscious will take action on that thought.

This can be achieved SLOWLY using the principle of AUTOSUGGESTION. Or it can happen quickly such as when having a breakdown, crisis, accident or even when being super emotionally charged (The Habit Code).

Ever seen an NFL team walk the field with a “ho hum”, passive attitude? Yeah right! It’s not JUST testosterone getting these guys all riled up. They know the power of emotion.

Positive self-talk, self-analysis and lifelong self-improvement are other qualities Hill relates to a winning attitude.

Lastly, it’s said that Opportunity is one of the determining factors of who becomes a Champion. Having access to coaches, facilities and training play a major role in development. Clearly that applies in business as much as sport. We have in our hands an opportunity few before us have ever had. It’s time to step up to the plate, seize this opportunity and create our destiny.

I’m going to wrap up today with Al Pachino’s Inch By Inch speech from the movie, Any Given Sunday. For anyone who hasn’t seen the movie, Al Pachino is the coach of an NFL team and this is in the locker room before a big game.

I don’t know what to say really.
Three minutes to the biggest battle of our professional lives
all comes down to today.
Either we heal as a team, or we are going to crumble.
Inch by inch, play by play, till we’re finished.
We are in hell right now, gentlemen believe me
we can stay here and get the shit kicked out of us,
or we can fight our way back into the light.
We CAN climb out of hell.
One inch at a time.

Now I can’t do it for you.
I’m too old.
I look around and I see these young faces
and I think I made every wrong choice a middle age man could make.
I pissed away all my money believe it or not.
I chased off anyone who has ever loved me.
And lately, I can’t even stand the face I see in the mirror.

You know when you get old in life, things get taken from you.
That’s part of life.
But, you only learn that when you start losing stuff.
You find out that life is just a game of inches.
So is football.
Because in either game life or football the margin for error is so small.
I mean one half step too late or to early, you don’t quite make it.
One half second too slow or too fast, and you don’t quite catch it.
The inches we need are everywhere around us.
They are in every break of the game, every minute, every second.

On this team, we fight for that inch
On this team, we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch.
We CLAW with our finger nails for that inch.
Cause we know when we add up all those inches
that’s going to make the fucking difference
between WINNING and LOSING
between LIVING and DYING.

I’ll tell you this
in any fight it is the guy who is willing to die, who is going to win that inch.
And I know if I am going to have any life anymore
it is because, I am still willing to fight, and die for that inch
because that is what LIVING is.
The six inches in front of your face.

Now I can’t make you do it.
You gotta look at the guy next to you.
Look into his eyes.
Now I think you are going to see a guy who will go that inch with you.
You are going to see a guy who will sacrifice himself for this team
because he knows when it comes down to it,
you are gonna do the same thing for him.

That’s a team, gentlemen
and either we heal now, as a team,
or we will die as individuals.
That’s football guys.
That’s all it is.
Now, whattaya gonna do?

Procrastination . . .

August 11, 2011
Wow…. when you do the research on Procrastination… it would blow your mind how much is written on the topic… At some point everyone procrastinates, but some more than others… just know you are not alone.

The Definition for ProcrastinationTo habitually put off doing things that need to be done until a future time.

Procrastination is a problem for many Network Marketers.  The days tick by one after another – we often intend on making the list & making the calls… but what stops us?  People procrastinate on lots of different things… especially the harder ones that require more effort & dont have immediate gratification.

QUOTE from Napoleon Hill
“Old Man Procrastination stands within the shadow of every human being,
 waiting his opportunity to spoil ones chances of success.”

Procrastination can be your worst enemy in Network Marketing.  Procrastinating makes the job seem tougher than it really is. Finding ways to overcome procrastination helps people break bad habits and improves life.

I’m guilty of procrastinating… (big clue as to why I am writing this today) and I definitely stop in those life parking spots (small distractions) along the way.

Do you sometimes procrastinate on things?

I’ve gotten better recently because of my strong desire, my goals and getting crystal clear on my why… & being part of  my TM4 Team has been a reality check I needed.

It helps to understand… Why do we procrastinate in Network Marketing?

THREE PRIMARY REASONS

1) It’s easy to do, but easy not to do…
    In Network Marketing, people procrastinate especially when prospecting… out & about or making the calls. FEAR stops
    people.  The 500 lb phone stops people.  The truth is once you take action it isn’t to difficult to keep moving.  Each day with
    NO action is a lost opportunity, you can never recover.

2) POOR Time Management
    * Everyone has the same 24 hours a day… whether you are new, in a while or a big dawg!!!
     Be certain of your priorities & goals.  Don’t allow outside influences to interrupt your daily activity.  Getting started is an
    obstacle that holds you back… shut off the tv, (no cv in tv)  get off the couch &  run with the big dawgs!!!!

3) Perfectionism
     Waiting for the right time, the right script, or for things to be just right.  DONT WORRY… it will NEVER be perfect!!!
     Just start & be human.  You dont have to be perfect, you just  have to get going!

Once you understand WHY you procrastinate… how do you stop?

HOW TO STOP PROCRASTINATING…

Learning to overcome procrastination is one of the BEST Gifts you can give Yourself.  You will be happier, have less stress & achieve more and you will not look back with regrets!!!

4 MAJOR TIPS…

1) Just Do It!!!  One of the Best slogans ever created!!!  Get in the habit of just doing it.  Make the calls & share the business.
     Forget all the mental chatter that is going on in your
     head & just do it.  Activity… ALWAYS brings satisfaction & results.  Just get started…. & over time it gets easier & easier

2) REALIZE YOU ARE PROCRASTINATING
    Acknowledge it & overcome it.  Identify tasks you can AVOID  that are time wasters (put then off until later)
    like checking email, watching tv, playing on FB, chit chat phone calls, etc…

3) REMEMBER YOUR MOTIVATIONS…
     Your goals,Your dreams, Your WHY
     Keep your mind set right.  Read books, attend events, get on webinars & conference calls -
     INVEST IN YOURSELF… you’re worth it!
    With the right mindset… your Motivations will help you stay disciplined focused & on task.

4) WRITE your Goals & a Timeline for every Goal.  Visualize what you want every day.  Review your goals
     Someday is NOT a day of the week.  Make a plan & take action now!   Write it down!!!!
     Tell people about your RESULTS, not your plan.
     Stop thinking, just take daily action!

Every time you feel like procrastinating LOOK at your goals & how your life can change for the better.  It will keep you out of the rut & moving forward.

Remember the three Primary Reasons why we procrastinate. Apply the Four Major Tips for your business and your personal life to prevent or minimize procrastination and you will achieve more success.

One of the number one attributes of every top earner in every network marketing company is they don’t procrastinate, most of the time.  When it comes to prospecting & calls, they get it done.

“Procrastination is the Thief of Time”  Don’t let procrastination steal your time, or your tenacity, or make you give up or keep you from leading by example.

Minimize procrastination in your life, get into massive action & be ready to experience massive success!

Have Fun out there!

Paying It Forward,

THE PRICE OF THE PROMISE

May 3, 2011

THE PRICE OF PROMISE

The Power Of Network Marketing

Mark Yarnell, a minister in a small town in Texas, was headed for bankruptcy and just about to lose his car and home.  He looked for a way out and discovered network marketing.  Luckily, he had a wise sponsor.

The sponsor gave Mark “THE PRICE OF PROMISE”.
“This business can set you free financially in one to three years.”
But he also gave him “THE PRICE”. “To succeed, you will have to face and conquer 4 major enemies.”

Mark said, “It’s a deal.”

Mark began by inviting 200 friends over to his house to watch a video. 80 said “No, not interested”

- Mark had encountered ENEMY #1: Rejection.

He thought, “No problem. My sponsor warned me about that. I’ve got 120 people still coming over.” Guess what?

- He had just encountered ENEMY #2: Deception.

Mark thought, “No problem. My sponsor warned me about that. I’ve got 70 people who watched the tape.” Guess what? 57 said “Not Interested”.

- He had just encountered ENEMY #3: Apathy.

Undaunted, Mark thought, “No problem. 13 people signed up.” Guess what? 12 of them dropped out of the business shortly thereafter.

- He had just encountered ENEMY #4: Attrition.

Attrition had left Mark with just one serious associate. But to this day, that single distributor earns Mark over $50,000 per month.

Mark Yarnell’s story is NOT Unique!

You may have heard of  Bill Britt, one of the most successful distributors in Amway. Some years ago, 20/20 did a feature story on Amway. They spent 19 minutes interviewing whiners and complainers – several distributors who had failed and showed the garages full of products they couldn’t sell. During the last minute of the show, Mr. Britt was interviewed in front of his palatial home.
He was asked, “Mr. Britt, this business has obviously worked for you. What’s your secret?”

He replied, “There is no secret. I simply showed the plan to 1200 people. 900 said, ‘No’ and only 300 signed up. Out of those 300, only 85 did anything at all. Out of those 85 only 35 were serious, and out of those 35, 11 made me a millionaire.”
Like Mark Yarnell, Bill worked through the numbers.

Jason Boreyko, former co-founder of New Vision, told this story. When he was a distributor in Matol, he signed up 50 people. He heard a lot of “No’s” on the way to those 50. Jason took one man, who he knew would be terrific in the business to lunch, told him about the business and the man said “No.” Jason took the man to lunch again the next month and told him the updates.
Once again the man said, “No.” Jason sent him more information and took him to lunch again the next month. And again the man said, “No.” That went on for six months. The seventh month, something had changed for the man, and he said, “Yes.”
That man made Jason over one million dollars. Jason also worked through his numbers.

According to Richard Poe in Wave Three while starting Amway, Rich DeVos and Jay Van Andel, America’s eleventh richest people, recruited 500 people. 495 dropped out. The five that didn’t quit built Amway. All $7 billion of Amway’s business was built under those 5 people. Jay and Rich had to work through their numbers. There are many similar stories.

Jeff, the top money earner in Mannatech, signed up 27 people his first month. One might think that he is especially talented at sponsoring. Actually, Jeff will be the first to tell you that he is not talented at all. In fact, he feels that he did very poorly. To recruit those 27, Jeff talked to 2,000 people that first month. And of the 27, the only one who did anything significant with the business was Ray Gebauer, who has more than half of Mannatech in his downline.

Jeff’s word to you is that the numbers never lie. Pick your goal and then get into massive action. If you talk to enough people, you will make it!

Here’s the lesson: Your success is directly related to the degree to which you are willing to work to find others like yourself who are committed to succeed. Mark Yarnell’s odds were 1 out of 50. (Jeff’s were really 1 out of 2000.) Would you be willing to go through 200 people to find the 1 who will make you $50,000 a month? Or go through 200 people to become a millionaire? Or hear uncounted “No’s” to sign up 50 people to find a million dollar person? I hope you will. It’s easier when you know the
odds up front.

But here’s the catch: You have your own set of odds and you won’t know what they are until AFTER YOU’VE SUCCEEDED. So if you’ve gone through 50 or 100 people and you haven’t found 1 serious person yet, you can either give up and assume the business doesn’t work or recognize that you are working through your own numbers.

Are you willing to find out what your own set of odds is?

That means that you must pay the price for freedom. Remember that the numbers never fail you. Despite where you are in your skill level, your success is assured if you talk to enough people. And as your skill improves, so will your odds.

There is no such thing as luck in this industry. Winning big is a matter of being willing to pay the price. Are you? Your future is in your hands!  The choices which you make today will determine the course of your entire future.

Six Steps To Create Momentum

April 18, 2011

Six Steps To Create Momentum

No matter what type of organization you lead, business you run, or what kind of personal goals you are pursuing, one of the keys that will determine the level of your success is momentum.  Momentum is defined as “the force of movement”.  It can help decide how high you will go and how quickly you will get there.  At the same time, momentum can often prove illusive; something that seems to be here today and yet is gone tomorrow.

WHAT DOES MOMENTUM LOOK LIKE

John Maxwell calls momentum “the big mo”.   In his book “The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership”, he says that “Momentum is really a leader’s best friend.  Sometimes it’s the only difference between winning and losing.”

You know you have momentum when you run over obstacles in your path like they were nothing.  Momentum is when things happen with ease, one success follows another and forward growth comes quickly.  Momentum allows leaders to move past mistakes quickly, and any kind of change is possible.  People throughout the organization are motivated to achieve more, and at a higher level. Momentum makes the leader look good, because success seems to happen easily.

If you’re in sales, momentum is when sales come easy, one after another.  In fact you are confident going into the next sales call that you will make the sale.  In your personal life momentum is when you are meeting your goals one after another.  It is when your life is in balance and everything is going right.  You get the idea – it’s like dominos once one thing falls, the rest follow suit.

HOW TO ACHIEVE MOMENTUM

1. Achieving momentum starts with creating forward progress.

Getting started is the most difficult part.  It’s like the law of inertia:  an object in motion tends to stay in motion, and an object at rest tends to stay at rest.  Momentum is what happens when you get moving.  Whatever your goal is take a step towards it now.  This is why I suggest starting your day with a power hour. Your power hour allows you to do something first off in the morning that gives you progress towards your goals right away.  You create success within the first hour of the day, helping you gain momentum.  Once you are in motion for the day you are more likely to stay in motion and continue on towards your goals.

2. You are responsible for the momentum of your team.

Momentum starts with the leader, and then moves outwards and impacts the entire team.  If you lead a team of people in any form then you are responsible for the momentum of your team, you can’t place the responsibility on anyone else. Team momentum starts with your personal momentum.  You need to be motivated yourself and moving forward, before you can motivate others.  Understanding this will allow you to help your team to follow these steps towards momentum.

3. Have a clear vision and goals for your future.

Develop a vision for where you want to go and keep that vision out front.  Continually remind yourself and your team about the vision you are pursing.  Your vision should be important, not just to yourself but some way of contributing to the world and the well being of others.  This kind of vision will inspire. Then starting from your vision set your goals.  Make your goals clear, concise and dated.  Develop ways to remind yourself about your goals and vision.  Review your goals list daily, and put photos around your workspace and home that remind you of your goals.  Use these reminders to inspire you to move forward.

4. Apply the principle of massive action.

In the Olympic 100m sprint, the most important part of the race is leaving the starting blocks.  Sprinters that have a quick reaction time and are able to leave the start with power are often able to get so much momentum that they can’t be caught later in the race.  In your business you need to leave the starting blocks fast.  Even if your business is established you can get out fast by restarting your business – do that today and go!  If you are looking for customers, make a massive amount of prospecting calls bringing in a large amount of new customers; if you’re promoting your web site, do massive amounts of promotion – whatever you do to grow your business or to achieve your personal goals, start creating momentum by doing massive amounts of what it takes to succeed.

5. Follow one success immediately with another.

When is the best time to try to set an appointment with a prospect?  The best time to make a new prospecting call is immediately after you just set an appointment.  When is the best time to do a sales presentation? It is immediately after you just made a sale.  Far too often people will stop and take a break after they meet some goal or objective.  They think they deserve a reward and they take a break.  I’m all in favor of rewarding yourself for success but if you do it immediately after a small success, you’re limiting the momentum you can achieve.  If you’ve just had success in a particular goal, whether its making a sale or meeting a deadline you have gained a tremendous amount of energy and confidence from that action – so take advantage of it and make the next step.  You are most motivated immediately following a success, make use of that motivation to continue the forward motion you’ve started.  Reward yourself later, keep moving forward now!

6. Create Wins for Your Team

Having seen your success, the motivation of your teammates will be rising.  You can capitalize on this by putting them in situations that allow them to see some wins in what they are doing.  Look for any way you can of helping them succeed.  The more wins they can have, the more confidence they will have and the more momentum they will be build.  Make sure you are not neglecting the massive personal action at this time as well.  You need to maintain personal activity while working with your team members at the same time.
Following these steps will help you create “the big mo”.  Hold on tight, because momentum can propel you and your business further towards your goals in a short time than you might even imagine.
